Oculus Home

You can change the Oculus Home environment after you put on your Samsung Gear VR headset.

To change your Oculus Home environment:

  1. Put on your headset and go to Oculus Home.
  2. Select Library at the bottom.
  3. Select Environments and then choose a new environment.

Oculus Parties

You can create a party using your Samsung Gear VR to chat or play games online with up to 3 of your friends. You can also invite your party to hang out in a room together. In order to join a party, you’ll need to allow Oculus access to your phone’s microphone. Once you join a party, we recommend that you wear headphones so that everyone can hear you well.

Creating and Leaving Parties

To create a party:

  1. Connect your Samsung Android phone to your Gear VR headset and then put it on.
  2. From Home, select the Social button from the main toolbar.
  3. Select Friends.
  4. From your friends list, select next to the people you'd like to invite to your party.
  5. Select the Party tab to join your party or view pending invitations.

Once your friends accept your invite, they’ll join your party.

To leave a party:

  1. From Home, select the Social button under the main toolbar.
  2. Select the Parties tab.
  3. Select the red telephone icon to leave the party.
Adding Friends to a Party

To add friends to a party:

  1. From Home, select a friend from your friends list you want to add to your party.

Keep in mind that anyone who joins your party can also invite their friends until you reach a party of 4 people.

Notes:

  • Parties doesn’t support Bluetooth® headphones right now.
  • If you disconnect your headset while in a party your mic will be muted.

Oculus Video

You can watch the following things in Oculus Video on your Samsung Gear VR:

  • New Videos: Watch new featured 360 videos.
  • Entertainment: Watch 360 videos about movies, TV shows, apps and more.
  • Travel & Nature: Watch travel and nature videos from around the world.
  • News & Documentary: Watch newsworthy and educational videos.
  • Horror: Watch scary 360 videos.
  • Thrills: Watch adventurous and exciting videos.
  • Movies: Watch featured or purchased movies and movie trailers.
  • My Videos: Watch movies you've taken on your phone or movies you've purchased.

Notes:

  • You may need a WiFi connection to watch some videos.
  • Oculus Video is not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phones running Android Lollipop OS (version 5.0 - 5.1.1).
  • Purchased videos are available for streaming and are not downloadable.

You can adjust mobile data usage, storage and notifications for Oculus Video on your Samsung Android phone.

To adjust your settings in Oculus Video:

  1. From your phone’s home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Tap Apps and then tap Oculus Video.
  3. Here, you can adjust the settings that you want to change.

You can view videos you’ve recorded on your Samsung Android phone or ones you’ve transferred from your PC computer in Oculus Video on your Samsung Gear VR.

To view your own videos in Oculus Video:

From your phone:
  1. Record a video on your phone.
  2. Put on your Gear VR headset and open Oculus Video.
  3. Select Categories from the left menu and then select My Videos.
  4. Select the video you added.
From your PC:
  1. Connect your phone to your PC using a micro USB cable.
  2. Transfer your videos to your Movies folder.
  3. Put on your Gear VR headset and open Oculus Video .
  4. Select Categories from the left menu and then select My Videos.
  5. Select the video you added.
From your Mac:
  1. Download Android File Transfer to connect your phone to your Mac.
  2. Transfer your videos to your Movies folder.
  3. Put on your Gear VR headset and open Oculus Video .
  4. Select Categories from the left menu and then select My Videos.
  5. Select the video you added.

Note: Videos you’ve bought from other places (example: Play Store, iTunes) won’t show up in My Videos.

Video:
  • mp4
  • m4v
  • 3gp
  • 3g2
  • webm
  • mkv
  • wmv
  • avi
Audio:
  • mp3
  • aac

Notes:

  • Some mp4 videos may have unsupported audio formats that won’t work in Oculus Video.
  • Oculus Video is not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phones running Android Lollipop OS (version 5.0 - 5.1.1).
