When you add your own videos to Oculus Video on your Oculus Rift S or Rift, you can add playback parameters. To add playback parameters, create a .txt file and add it to the folder where you're storing your videos (example: Windows Videos folder on your PC computer).

Text Format and Parameters

When creating your .txt file, use the following format and parameters:

Format:

{

"title": "movieTitle",

"format": "format",

"audio_encoding": "audio"

}

Parameters:

  • movieTitle - If no title is specified, Oculus Video displays the filename as the movie title.
  • format
    • (no value) - Full screen 2D. (default)
    • 2D - Full screen 2D.
    • 3D - 3D with left and right images in side-by-side anamorphic format.
    • 3DLR - 3D with left and right images in side-by-side anamorphic format.
    • 3DLRF - 3D with left and right images in side-by-side format.
    • 3DTB - 3D with left and right images in top-to-bottom anamorphic format.
    • 3DTBF - 3D with left and right images in top-to-bottom format.

    • (no value) - down mix multi-channel audio to stereo. (default)
    • TBE_6_2 - 8-channel spatial audio in .tbe format. Learn more about 360 spatial audio.

Filename Tags

You can also embed tags into the filename of your media file. For example, naming your media file MyMovie_180x180_barrel.mp4 tells Oculus Video that it's a 2D 180-degree video with barrel-map distortion.

Here's the full list of filename tags:

Combining Configuration Files and Filename Tags

You can use both filename tags and configuration file parameters together. Configuration file parameters take precedence over filename tags.

Example

MyMovie_360_spherical_3dh.mp4

MyMovie_360_spherical_3dh.txt:

{

"title": "Facebook 360 3D Spatial Audio Demo",

"audio_encoding": "TBE_6_2"

}
