We recommend that your PC computer meets or exceed these system specifications to power the full Rift experience. If you’re not sure what hardware you have, you can use our compatibility check tool to see if your computer meets our minimum or recommended system specs.

Minimum Specs

The NVIDIA GTX 960 (4GB), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (4GB), NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti (laptop), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M and AMD Radeon RX 470 currently meet the minimum specs.

Using the Oculus Compatibility Check Tool

Before you buy an Oculus Rift, we recommend you run the Oculus compatibility check tool to check to make sure your PC computer can power the full Rift experience.

To run the Rift compatibility check tool:

  1. Go to https://ocul.us/compat-tool to download the compatibility check tool
  2. Open the tool and click Start
Tool Results

After running the compatibility check tool, it’ll tell you if your computer:

  • Meets or exceeds the recommended system specifications. If your computer meets or exceeds the recommend system specs, you should be able to power the full Rift experience.
  • Meets or exceeds the minimum system specs. If your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system specs, you should be able to run the Rift, but you may come across problems that we won’t be able to fix.
  • Doesn’t meet the minimum system specs. If your computer doesn’t meet the minimum system specs, you may not be able to run the Rift at all. If you still decide to buy a Rift, we won’t be held responsible if the Rift doesn’t work on your computer.
Your Computer Doesn’t Meet the Specs

If you find out your computer doesn’t meet the minimum or recommended system specs after running the compatibility check tool, you can:

If you run the Oculus compatibility check tool and receive a message telling you that your PC computer doesn’t meet the system specifications needed to power the Oculus Rift, you may need to upgrade your computer to make sure it meets the required components below.

Keep in mind if your computer doesn’t meet the minimum system specs, you may not be able to run the Rift at all. If you still decide to buy a Rift, we won’t be held responsible if the Rift doesn’t work on your computer.

Operating System

The Rift requires one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8.1

If you have enough USB 3.0 ports, check your manufacturer’s website to make sure your USB drivers are up to date:

If you don’t have enough USB 3.0 ports, you can buy and install an expansion card. We recommend a PCI Express USB 3.0 Expansion Card that uses the Fresco Logic FL1100EX chipset. You can purchase this expansion card on Amazon in the US or Europe.

Note: While this expansion card is recommended to work with most PCs, it may not work with all components and software.
