Before you set up your Oculus Rift or Rift S, check to make sure that the following things are up to date:

Graphics Card

Graphics drivers enable your graphics card hardware to communicate with your computer. Staying up to date with the latest drivers available for your graphics card is needed for a smooth experience with Oculus Rift or Rift S. Occasionally, you may need to repair or uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers to resolve a driver-related issue.

To check for updates for your graphics card:
NVIDIA Graphics Card Updates

There are two options for downloading and installing the latest drivers for your NVIDIA graphics card:


AMD Graphics Card Updates

There are two options for downloading and installing the latest drivers for your AMD graphics card:

  • Install updates through AMD Radeon Settings:
  1. Right-click on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings. (If you cannot see AMD Radeon Settings, select AMD Catalyst Control Center).
  2. Select Information in the menu.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select Check for updates now.
  5. Download and install the latest graphics card drivers (64-bit drivers are required).
To repair your graphics card drivers:
  1. Locate the latest drivers for your graphics card:
  2. Open the driver executable and allow the software to boot.
  3. Select a clean driver installation.
    • If you can't see this option, it is typically found as an advanced or custom option selected during the installation instruction.
To uninstall and reinstall your graphics card drivers:
  1. Locate the latest drivers for your graphics card:
  2. Locate and open the Windows Apps and Features tool.
  3. Locate the graphics card drivers for your system.
  4. Select Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Once you've uninstalled your graphics card drivers, restart your PC.
  6. Run the driver executable you previously downloaded and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall.
  7. If you've completed the steps above and continue to experience issues, please collect logs and contact Customer Support.


USB Drivers

USB drivers allow a hardware device, such as an Oculus Rift or Rift S, to communicate with your computer. Staying up to date with the latest drivers enables a smooth experience with Oculus Rift or Rift S. Occasionally, you may need to repair or uninstall and reinstall your USB drivers to resolve a driver-related issue.

USB driver updates should be included with Windows updates. If you're having a problem with your USB drivers, check to make sure that you're running the most up-to-date version of Windows. If this doesn't solve the problem, you can also install updates directly from your manufacturer's website:
