Password and PIN

The password you create for the Oculus app is used to log into your Oculus account. All your Oculus devices share the same account and password.

Oculus Rift

To change your password using the Oculus app on your computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Under Account, click Password.
  4. Enter a new password and then enter your old password to confirm the change.
  5. Click Submit.

Oculus Go

To change your password using your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings and then tap Change Oculus Password.
  3. Enter your old password, your new password, and your new password again to confirm.
  4. Tap Save to save your new password.

Gear VR

To change your password using your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More and then tap Change Password.
  3. Enter your old password, your new password, and your new password again to confirm.
  4. Tap Save to save your new password.

The Oculus PIN you create for your Oculus account is used to verify your identity and to make it easy to buy things in the Oculus store. All your Oculus devices share the same PIN.

Oculus Rift

To reset your Oculus PIN using the Oculus app on your computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Under Account, click Oculus PIN.
  4. Enter a new PIN and then enter your password to confirm the change
  5. Click Submit


Oculus Go

To reset your Oculus PIN using your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings from the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Reset Oculus Pin.
  4. Enter your password, then enter your new PIN and tap Submit.

Gear VR

To reset your Oculus PIN using your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone
  2. Tap More and then tap Reset Oculus PIN
  3. Enter your password, then enter your new PIN and tap Save.

Many people use the same password on multiple websites. If one website is compromised, bad actors may try to use these passwords on other sites. As a result, we monitor online forums where lists of emails and passwords appear from time to time. If we believe that an email and password combination on one of these lists may match the one you use for your Oculus account, we will proactively invalidate your current password and ask you to choose a new, unique password to help protect your account. This process is designed as a preventative measure. It doesn’t necessarily mean that your account has been compromised.

To help avoid this issue in the future, here are a few tips on how to protect your passwords online:

  • Don’t use a password that you’ve used previously, and don’t use your Oculus password anywhere else.
  • Never share your password. You should be the only one who knows it.
  • Avoid including your name or common words. Your password should be difficult to guess.

We use a variety of practices, including a process called 'hashing,' that prevent us from having to store your plain text password.

Once we discover a set of disclosed email addresses and passwords, we check to see if any of them could be used to log into valid Oculus accounts.

If the email and hash combinations don’t match, we don’t take any action. If we find a match, we proactively prompt you to change your password. This process helps your account remain secure.

Payments

The payment method you add to your Oculus account is used to buy things in the Oculus store. All your Oculus devices share the same payment method.

Oculus Rift

To add or remove a payment method using the Oculus app on your PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the Payment tab.
  4. Click the Add Payment Method dropdown menu.
  5. Select either Credit or Debit Card or PayPal Account.
  6. Enter your payment info to add your payment method. To remove a payment method, click Remove next to the applicable card or PayPal account.

Oculus Go

To add or remove a payment method using your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings from the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Payment Methods.
  4. Tap + Add Payment Method.
  5. Tap Add a credit or debit card or Add a PayPal account.
  6. Enter your payment info to add your payment method.
  7. To remove a payment method, tap the payment method you'd like to remove and then tap Remove.


Gear VR

To add or remove a payment method using your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More and then tap Payment Method.
  3. Tap + Add Payment.
  4. Tap Add a credit or debit card or Add a PayPal account.
  5. Enter your payment info to add your payment method. To remove a payment method, tap and then tap Remove.

If you receive store credit from Oculus, you can check your store credit balance from your settings in the Oculus app. Before you use your store credit, you’ll need to add a payment method to your account. All your Oculus devices share the same store credit.

Oculus Rift

To check your store credit balance using the Oculus app on your computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the Payment tab to view your store credit balance.

Oculus Go

To check your store credit balance using your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings from the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Payment Methods to view your store credit balance.

Gear VR

To check your store credit balance using your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Payment Method to view your store credit balance.

Note: You can only use store credits in the currency they were issued in. Oculus Store Credit is non-transferable and cannot be used for other currency.

If you have store credit in a currency that is different from the currency of your Oculus store, the store credit cannot be applied to your purchases.

When you connect PayPal with your Oculus account, Oculus requires a PayPal Billing Agreement be made using a connected bank account, debit or credit card.

After PayPal has been added to your Oculus Account successfully, you can change your preferred PayPal payment method, including options for PayPal Credit or PayPal Balance, within your PayPal Wallet settings.

To use PayPal Credit or PayPal Balance with your Oculus account:

  1. Visit PayPal.com and sign in to your personal PayPal account
  2. Click Wallet in the top menu
  3. Click your desired PayPal payment method in the left menu
  4. under the section Preferred when paying online, click Set as preferred.

After these steps have been completed, your PayPal account should automatically save this payment method to use toward your future Oculus digital purchases.

  • These features and settings are strictly managed within your PayPal account. For any questions or concerns regarding PayPal Credit and PayPal Balance, we recommend contacting PayPal Support directly.
  • These features and settings may be subject to availability restrictions in certain regions.

Privacy

When you create an Oculus account, you can choose who can see your real name, activity and friend list in the Oculus app.

From your privacy settings, you can control the following info:

  • Real Name: Choose who can see your real name and if you want people to find it in search.
  • Activity: Choose who can see your activity in games and apps.
  • Friend List: Choose who can see your friend list.
Oculus Rift

To control who can see your info using the Oculus app on your PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the Privacy tab and then click Privacy Settings.

Oculus Go

To control who can see your info using the app on your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings from the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Privacy Settings.

Gear VR

To control who can see your info using the app on your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Privacy Settings.

When you block someone in the Oculus app, they won’t be able to see your info or activity. Blocking a friend will also remove them from your friend list on all your Oculus devices.

Oculus Rift

To block someone you’ve friended using the Oculus app on your PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select your name from the bottom left menu.
  3. Click next to the name of the person you want to block, then click Block.

To unblock someone using the Oculus app on your computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Click Block List and then click Unblock next to person you want to unblock.

Oculus Go

To block someone you’ve friended using the app on your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Friends from the bottom menu and then tap next to the person you want to block.
  3. Tap Block to block that person.

To unblock someone using the Oculus app on your phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings and then tap Privacy Settings.
  3. Tap List of users under Blocked Users.
  4. Tap the person you want to unblock and then confirm that you want to unblock that person.

Gear VR

To block someone you’ve friended using the Oculus app on your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Friends and then tap the person you want to block.
  3. Tap in the top right and then tap Block.

To unblock someone using the Oculus app on your Gear VR connected Phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More and then tap Privacy Settings.
  3. Tap List of users under Blocked Users, then tap the person you want to unblock and then tap Unblock.

Note: If you unblock a friend, you’ll need to add them again to see them on your friend list.

Profile and Preferences

To change your profile picture using the Oculus app on your PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Click your name in the bottom left menu.
  3. Click your current profile picture and then click it again to change it.
  4. Choose an Oculus picture or click Upload Picture at the bottom to add your own.
  5. Click Confirm.

To change your profile picture using the Oculus app on your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top left
  3. Tap your profile picture and then tap one of the following to change your profile picture:
    • Take Photo
    • Choose from Phone
    • Choose an Oculus Picture

Note: Your profile picture must have a resolution of 176x176 pixels.

When you create an Oculus account, you'll create an Oculus username that's publicly visible and shared on all your Oculus devices. You can change your username only once every 6 months.

Username requirements:

  • Usernames must start with a letter or number
  • Usernames may be between 2 to 20 characters in length
  • Usernames may include a mix of letters, number, dashes, underscores, and periods, but may not include dashes, underscores, or periods consecutively
  • Usernames may not have spaces

To change your Oculus username:

  1. Go to secure.oculus.com and log into your account
  2. Click My Profile on the left
  3. Click Edit next to Username
  4. Enter your new username and your Oculus password
  5. Click Save and then click Confirm to change your username

You can create an avatar for your Oculus account that you can see in some Oculus Store content. All your Oculus devices share the same avatar.

To create an avatar using your Oculus Rift:

  1. Put on your Rift headset and go to Oculus Home.
  2. Next to your profile picture in the top right, select Edit Avatar.
  3. Select Start in the center of the mirror.
  4. Select Head, Wardrobe or Palette on the left to customize your avatar.
  5. When you’re done, select Exit on the right.

To create an avatar using your Oculus Go or Samsung Gear VR:

  1. Put on your Oculus Go or Gear VR headset.
  2. Select People from the navigation menu, then select Profile.
  3. Select Edit Avatar to open the avatar editor.
  4. Select Face, Hair, Facial Hair, Eyewear, or Clothing in the left menu to customize your avatar.
  5. When you’re done, select Save Avatar & Exit on the bottom.

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the General tab.
  4. Next to Language Preference, click to select your language.

Oculus Go

The language you see in the Oculus app will be based off the language you select in your phone settings. If the language you select from your phone settings isn’t supported in the Oculus app, the language in the Oculus app will default to an Oculus-supported language in your location. If there isn’t an Oculus-supported language available in your location, it’ll default to English.

The Oculus app for Oculus Go supports the following languages:

The language you see in the Oculus app will be based off the language you select in your Android phone settings. Friends

You can add friends to your Oculus account to invite to games and parties. All your Oculus devices share the same friend list.

Oculus Rift

To add friends to your Oculus account on a PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select your name from the bottom left menu.
  3. Click Add Friends and search by someone’s username or first and last name to add them

Oculus Go

To add friends to your Oculus account on your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Friends from the bottom menu and then tap Add Friends.
  3. Search by someone’s username or first and last name to add them.

Gear VR

To add friends to your Oculus account on your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Friends from the bottom menu and then tap Add Friends.
  3. Search by someone’s username or first and last name to add them.

Note: Some people may choose to not have their first and last name visible in search.

Linked Accounts

You can choose to link your Oculus account with your Facebook account so you can do things like livestream to Facebook, invite your Facebook friends to Oculus games and view your saved 360 photos and videos in Facebook 360.

Creating Your Oculus Account With Facebook Login

When you create an Oculus account, you can choose to log in and link it with your Facebook account. All your Oculus devices share the same account. By choosing to link your account, you agree:

  • Your Facebook friends will become your Oculus friends. As you add friends on Facebook and your friends connect to Oculus, your friend list will be automatically updated. However, if you add a friend on Oculus, they won't become your friend on Facebook.
  • Your Facebook name will become your real name on Oculus.
  • Even if your settings currently restrict your real name privacy, your Facebook friends who link their accounts to Oculus will be able to see and search your real name.
Logging Into Your Account With Facebook Login

If you've previously created an Oculus account or recently created one using Facebook Login, you can continue to login using your Facebook account.

However, if you create your Oculus account on your Gear VR or Oculus Go first and then want to log into your account on your Oculus Rift, you'll need to set a password using the Oculus app on your phone. Once you set your password, you can use it to log into your Oculus account on your Rift.

Oculus Go

To set a password using the Oculus app on your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings and then tap Set Password.
  3. Enter a password and then tap Save.
Gear VR

To set a password using the Oculus app on your Samsung Android phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More and then tap Set Password.
  3. Enter a password and then tap Save.

Linking and Unlinking Your Account

If you choose not to use Facebook Login, you can also link and unlink your account to Facebook from your settings.

Oculus Rift

To link or unlink your Oculus account with your Facebook account on your PC computer:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. From the Account tab, click Linked accounts.
  4. Click Connect to link your account to Facebook or Disconnect to unlink your account.
Oculus Go

To link or unlink your Oculus account with your Facebook account from your Oculus Go connected phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings and then tap Linked Accounts.
  3. Tap next to Link to Facebook to link or unlink your account with Oculus.

You can also choose to unsync your Facebook friends from your Linked Accounts settings. If you unsync your Facebook friends, all your Facebook friends will be removed from your Oculus friends list.

Gear VR

To link or unlink your Oculus account with your Facebook account on your phone:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your phone.
  2. Tap More and then tap Linked Accounts.
  3. Tap next to Link to Facebook to link or unlink your account with Oculus.

You can also choose to unsync your Facebook friends from your Linked Accounts settings. If you unsync your Facebook friends, all your Facebook friends will be removed from your Oculus friends list.

Public Test Channel

Before we make our software available to everyone, we put it through a variety of tests in an effort to ensure there are no major issues. The Oculus Public Test Channel Program is an opportunity for our community to test pre-release builds of the Oculus software, and join in to help with the process. Together we can work to build better features and updates, and we look forward to hearing your suggestions, issues you report, and feedback on new features and changes.

You can choose to join the Public Test Channel anytime, and by enrolling, you’ll be given the option to report any issues you encounter while testing potential changes. You can also choose to leave the program anytime after you’ve enrolled. Keep in mind enrolling in the Public Test Channel means you’ll be testing a beta version of the Oculus software that isn’t a finished product, so you may encounter issues ranging from minor issues to app crashes. If you run into any issues that cause discomfort or safety features to stop working (example: Guardian System), we recommend you stop using your Rift or use it with caution.

Enrolling in the Public Test Channel

You’ll automatically get the pre-release version of the Oculus software when one is available. Otherwise, you’ll get the public version.

To enroll in the Oculus Rift Public Test Channel:

  1. Open the Oculus app on your PC computer.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu.
  3. Select the Beta tab.
  4. Next to Public Test Channel, click to enroll.

Once you’ve enrolled in the Public Test Channel, you can choose to leave at any time by returning to the Beta section of the Oculus app and clicking next to Public Test Channel.
