Completing Gear VR Setup

Here are some things you can do to enhance your Gear VR experience.

Connecting Headphones [Optional]

Use headphones to enhance your Gear VR experience.

Just plug your headphones into the mobile device's headphone jack.

Note:
  • You can connect headphones either before or after connecting your mobile device to the Gear VR headset.
  • Adjust the volume using the volume controls on the right side of the headset, in front of the touchpad.
  • Avoid listening at higher volumes for long periods. Take a break every half-hour or so.
  • For more information, see our full Health & Safety Warnings.

Connecting a Charger [Optional]

For a longer Gear VR session, connect a charger to the charging port on the underside of the Gear VR headset.

Depending on your current usage, the Gear VR handles power differently while connected to a charger. As a result, the mobile battery may or may not charge while in use.

  • If the app or the content you're using requires a lot of power, the Gear VR may draw power simultaneously from the mobile device battery as well as from the charger.
  • In general, though, the Gear VR won't draw from the mobile device’s battery whenever it's connected to a charger.
  • When the Gear VR is connected to a charger and isn't in active use, it will always charge the mobile device battery.
Note:

Be aware of the following when using a charger:

  • If you disconnect the charger from the Gear VR while you're using it, there may be a brief lag while the Gear VR adjusts. To avoid interruptions, pause your game or other content before disconnecting the charger.
  • To help prevent damage or injury, avoid standing up or moving around while the Gear VR is connected to power.

Wearing the Gear VR

Here are some tips to make sure you're safe and comfortable using your Gear VR.

  1. Hook the back of the main strap on the back of your head, then pull the headset into place on your face in one smooth motion, like putting on a baseball cap.
  2. If necessary, adjust the length of the top head strap and the main strap so that your eyes are aligned with the centers of the lenses.

Note:

For your safety and that of others, make sure you:

  • Never walk or drive while wearing the Gear VR.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings while using the Gear VR.
  • Don't use the Gear VR near stairs, balconies, windows, furniture, or other people.
  • Remain seated while using the Gear VR. We recommend using a rotating desk chair for the best experience.
