My computer doesn’t meet the system specifications needed to power the Oculus Rift.

If you run the Oculus compatibility check tool and receive a message telling you that your PC computer doesn’t meet the system specifications needed to power the Oculus Rift, you may need to upgrade your computer to make sure it meets the required components below.

Keep in mind if your computer doesn’t meet the minimum system specs, you may not be able to run the Rift at all. If you still decide to buy a Rift, we won’t be held responsible if the Rift doesn’t work on your computer.

Operating System

The Rift requires one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10

If you’re using an earlier version of Windows 8, learn more about updating.

CPU

The Rift requires the following CPUs:

  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Minimum Spec
  • Intel i3-6100 / AMD FX4350 or greater

Graphics Card

The Rift requires the following graphics cards:

  • NVIDIA GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 480 equivalent or greater
  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater
Minimum Specs
  • NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 470 or greater
  • NVIDIA GTX 960 4GB / AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater

If you have enough USB 3.0 ports, check your manufacturer’s website to make sure your USB drivers are up to date:

If you don’t have enough USB 3.0 ports, you can buy and install an expansion card. We recommend a PCI Express USB 3.0 Expansion Card that uses the Fresco Logic FL1100EX chipset. You can purchase this expansion card on Amazon in the US or Europe.

Note: While this expansion card is recommended to work with most PCs, it may not work with all components and software.
